Katy-jo has taught dance, acting and singing to all ages since obtaining her associates in 1998. But her favourite teaching job of all is teaching Tomboogie and TBAD classes! Working with Tom on creating and developing the business has been a truly wonderful experience. It is the most rewarding job she has ever done and together they have created not just an exercise class but a family. The Tomboogie family!

Tomboogie creator Tom Murfin trained at The Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst Performing Arts School and with Niall and Nicky McMahan. At the age of 16 he was taken on by London agent Gilbert & Payne and three months before his 17th birthday Tom was asked to join the touring version of 42nd Street. Tom made his West End debut in Oklahoma, with Hugh Jackman, whilst still at the young age of 17. He then spent the next 15 years performing in the West End and in No1 touring shows including Cats, My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins, Guys and Dolls, On The Town, Boogie Nights, Carousel, Singing in the Rain and backing dancer for Robbie Williams. He was then invited by Andrew Lloyd Webber to be part of the Sydmonton festival performing as soloist in the debut production of The Likes of Us, the first ever musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. He has performed in two Royal Variety Shows, and a Royal Celebration for Prince Charles’ 50th birthday both for ITV, Blue Peter and The Legend of Dick and Dom for the BBC. You can hear Tom on the cast recordings of Oklahoma, My Fair Lady and The Likes of Us and can be seen on screen in the National’s production of Oklahoma (Still available some place on the internet! And on TV every Christmas!!) Tom was then asked to assist Adam Cooper choreographing the revival of Carousel at the Savoy theatre London in which Tom also played the lead dance role of Carnival Boy. Tom and Adam then went on to choreograph a brand new piece "Shall we Dance” At Saddlers Wells, London. He then assisted Alan Harding choreographing the Anton and Erin show from Strictly "Steppin Out". Tomboogie was created after Tom sustained an injury, and after hitting the gym to get back in shape, going nowhere on the treadmill and up and down fictional hills on the cross trainer, he thought, "There’s got to be a more fun, have a laugh, let your hair down way of getting fit" And that's when it hit him. A brand new dance exercise class based on the musicals with the music and moves we all know and love, a workout where the emphasis is on the dance and fun elements of exercise, where people can truly let go of their troubles. And with that Tomboogie was born. He could not have done it without his beautiful wife Doris (Katy-jo) who helped develop Tomboogie and co-created TBAD to what it is today.
